Memorial Maintenance

At Milano Monuments, we make beautiful headstone and memorials and, with our Monument Maintenance Service, we keep them beautiful year round—year after year. This way, you can relax and enjoy your time with your loved ones. 

If you request, we can place fresh flowers or a beautiful vase at the site. We will clean and add a fresh coat of paint on the granite when needed. We install new headstones and monuments and foundations, as well as restore older monuments to their original condition. And our engravers can add new names or artwork to the granite right at the gravesite!

In addition, if we see anything that may impact the look and safety of the gravesite, we will bring it to the attention of the family.

Memorial Cleaning

Quality gravestones, headstones and cemetery grave markers can last thousands of years with almost no degradation of the granite. The lettering and any engravings or etchings should look the same as they do the day they are created. However, hard irrigation water, tree sap, birds, grass clippings and other naturally occurring situations can cause the headstone and monument to become dirty-looking or stained. Proper cleaning might be necessary from time to time in order for your headstone to maintain its original beauty.

Some tips on cleaning a headstone and memorial:

• Use plenty of clean water. It may take as much as 20 gallons to clean an average monument.
• Do not use a pressure washer.
• Do not use any soap or other chemicals.
• Get the monument thoroughly wet before cleaning.
• Use a fiber or nylon brush, not a wire brush.
• Start cleaning at the bottom with just water and elbow grease. Work your way up to the top.
• Rinse thoroughly with more clean water.
• Do not let the monument dry until you are finished rinsing.
• Some monuments will require more than one cleaning depending on how stained or dirty it is.
